Larsen and Toubro

About Project

Larsen and Toubro (L&T) is a contractor for the Dibang Multipurpose Project, an upcoming 2880 MW hydropower project in Arunachal Pradesh.

Specifically, L&T won a Rs 1,622 crore contract from the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) for work related to the dam site’s access roads, bridges, and civil works for a diversion tunnel. The project aims to provide power and help control flooding in the region.

Project: The Dibang Multipurpose Project is a large-scale hydropower and flood control project located on the Dibang River in Arunachal Pradesh.

L&T’s role: Larsen & Toubro (L&T) was awarded a contract worth Rs 1,622 crore for civil and associated works.

Scope of work: The contract includes the construction of roads leading to the dam site, associated bridges, the left and right bank road networks, and the civil works for a diversion tunnel.

Project timeline: The completion period for L&T’s work is 36 months.

Challenges

Harsh Terrain: The project’s location in the Lower Dibang Valley, known for its challenging mountainous terrain, required solutions that could withstand high stress, moisture, and environmental fluctuations.

Heavy Traffic Load: The construction of access roads and bridges demanded durable materials capable of handling the weight of large equipment and materials under extreme conditions.

Water and Moisture Resistance: Given the proximity to the Dibang River, the risk of water exposure was high, which required materials that were resistant to water absorption and could perform well in wet environments.

Our Solutions

Enhanced Durability and Resistance: The Expanded Polyethylene provided superior resistance to moisture, ensuring long-lasting performance even in the damp and high-humidity environment of the Dibang Valley.

Lightweight Yet Strong: The product’s lightweight nature made it easy to transport and install, while its strength ensured that it could support the heavy machinery and traffic load required for the construction of access roads and bridges.

Shock Absorption: The foam’s shock-absorbing properties were particularly beneficial in reducing vibrations from construction activities, which in turn helped to protect the infrastructure and extend its lifespan.

Thanks to the robust performance of Expanded Polyethylene (AT) from Maruti Techno Rubber, L&T was able to meet the project’s rigorous demands for durability, moisture resistance, and weight-bearing capacity. The material played a critical role in ensuring that the construction progressed smoothly despite the challenging environmental conditions.
