The Payne Creek Solar PV Park is a utility-scale 70.3-megawatt (MW) ground-mounted solar power facility located in South Polk County, Florida. Developed and operated by Tampa Electric Company (TECO) on 503 acres of land reclaimed from a former phosphate rock mine, the project plays a critical role in advancing clean energy infrastructure. To secure the 711,012 photovoltaic modules firmly against harsh weather and environmental vibrations, high-quality, corrosion-resistant aluminum mid and end clamps manufactured by Maruti Techno Rubber were utilized across the mounting rails.

Challenges

High Weather and Wind Vulnerability: Central Florida is a severe climate zone prone to high-velocity tropical storms, hurricane wind-uplift pressures, and intense seasonal downpours.

Thermal and Dynamic Shifts: Single-axis solar trackers subject hardware to constant mechanical movement and shifting loads. Standard or low-grade mounting components risk shifting out of alignment, causing localized frame fatigue, micro-cracks in solar cells, or complete panel slippage.

Corrosive Foundation Soil: Because the facility is built entirely over a former mining site, structural components face prolonged contact with chemical residuals in the soil and aggressive atmospheric moisture, necessitating robust protection against oxidation.

Solution

High-Strength Clamping System: Precision-molded aluminum mid and end clamps by Maruti Techno Rubber were integrated into the framing assembly. Mid clamps isolate and tie together adjoining panels, while robust end clamps secure the perimeter boundaries against high mechanical drag.

Galvanic Isolation & Toughness: Extruded from highly durable aluminum alloys, Maruti’s fasteners provide superior load-distribution characteristics. They avoid structural fatigue and remain inert against chemical exposure, ensuring no destructive galvanic reactions occur between the tracking chassis and module frames.

Seamless Tracker Compatibility: Maruti’s component alignment allowed deployment teams to execute rapid, high-torque mechanical installations, locking the panels at the lowest lifetime operating profile while meeting Florida's rigorous wind load codes.
