Maruti Rubber Group of Industries has successfully manufactured and supplied elite-grade Neoprene Rubber Bearing Pads for the Nagpur Metro Phase 2 Project in Nagpur, Maharashtra. Executed by the infrastructure giant Kalpataru Projects International Limited (KPIL) under Package C-11, this critical transit development features extensive elevated viaducts and track networks. Maruti’s high-durability neoprene pads serve as crucial structural interfaces, safely transferring colossal vertical loads from the metro spans down to the supporting pillars.

Challenges

Nagpur experiences some of the most punishing summer climates in India, with ambient temperatures routinely crossing 45°C. Concrete viaduct box segments undergo considerable thermal expansion in the heat and contraction during winter nights. Rapid transit rail lines subject the structural pillars to sudden, heavy live loads and ongoing high-frequency vibrations from moving metro coaches. Over time, these dynamic forces can cause structural fatigue and concrete spalling at the segment interfaces.

Elevated metro networks carry massive dead weights of pre-cast concrete box girders. Standard commercial or natural rubber pads tend to experience permanent structural deformation (creep) over time when subjected to constant, immense vertical pressure, which leads to misalignment.

Solution

Maruti engineered the pads using premium, 100% chloroprene (neoprene) compounds. This ensures the elastomeric pads maintain consistent physical and mechanical properties from -40°C up to 120°C. They allow smooth, multi-directional horizontal shifting of the massive metro spans without hardening or cracking under the intense dry heat. Our neoprene rubber pads function as high-efficiency shock absorbers and vibration dampeners. By dampening the impact and uniformly distributing the dynamic stresses across the pier caps, Maruti's pads preserve the structural integrity of the viaducts, extending the station and corridor lifespan.

Every bearing pad supplied to Kalpataru Projects was meticulously vulcanised with optimized compounding to achieve superior compression-set resistance. Even under massive, decades-long vertical loads, Maruti's neoprene pads retain their geometric design and elasticity, guaranteeing long-term leveling and zero-maintenance operation.
