Maruti Rubber Group of Industries has successfully facilitated the specialized procurement and supply of high-end 70 sqmm x 4 Core EPR Copper Flexible Cables (National Make) for the mega Kwar Hydroelectric (HE) Project in the Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir. Commissioned by infrastructure major Om Infra Limited, this 540 MW run-of-the-river power project on the Chenab River requires elite-grade electrical infrastructure. Maruti supplied these heavy-duty, Ethylene Propylene Rubber (EPR) insulated flexible copper cables to power critical machinery and heavy construction equipment operating under extreme Himalayan subterranean conditions.

Challenges

The Kishtwar region experience brutal winter temperatures that drop well below freezing. Standard PVC or generic rubber cables become extremely brittle and crack under these conditions, especially when flexed or moved around heavy machinery on a hydro project site. Hydroelectric projects involve rugged underground tunneling, blasting, and excavation. Cables laid along the ground are constantly subjected to crushing under heavy vehicular traffic, impact from falling rock debris, and dragging across sharp, abrasive stone surfaces.

Public sector hydro projects executed under CVPPPL and Om Infra operate under rigid safety and technical audits. The electrical cables had to strictly meet precise technical criteria regarding cross-sectional area, continuous current-carrying capacity, and flame retardancy.

Solution

Maruti supplied the National Make EPR (Ethylene Propylene Rubber) insulated cable, which maintains exceptional flexibility and structural integrity at sub-zero temperatures. The advanced elastomer outer sheath resists thermal shock and cracking, allowing uninterrupted power delivery to Om Infra’s heavy machinery throughout the harsh winter seasons. The 70 sqmm x 4 Core cable features a highly robust, tear-resistant elastomeric outer jacket coupled with fine-stranded flexible copper conductors. This structural composition provides superior tensile strength and outstanding abrasion resistance, absorbing high-impact forces without risking internal core exposure or electrical short circuits.

By supplying genuine National Make cables, Maruti ensured complete compliance with rigorous Indian and international standards. Every meter delivered was backed by complete factory test certificates, confirming exact 70 sqmm dimensions, core resistance parameters, and insulation breakdown voltage benchmarks for seamless site clearance.
