The Chennai Metro Phase II project is a large-scale expansion of the city’s metro rail network, approved by the Union Cabinet which will add 118.9 kilometers of new lines and 128 stations across three corridors. The project, expected to be completed by 2027, will significantly increase the city’s metro capacity and integrate various modes of transport. This project will add about 13 lakh passenger capacity per day to the city’s transport system.

About Project
Challenges
Challenges of water ingress and potential leakage in underground tunnels, particularly at construction and expansion joints. Ensuring long-term durability and maintaining leak-proof conditions under high groundwater pressure was critical to safeguard the tunnels and enable uninterrupted metro operations in a densely populated urban environment.
Our Solutions
Swell Bars with Re injectable Hoses provided a reliable, self-expanding sealing system that effectively blocked water ingress and maintained leak-proof joints. The reinjectable hoses allowed for future maintenance, ensuring continued performance under variable hydrostatic pressures. This solution enabled TATA Projects to deliver safe, durable, and low-maintenance underground metro tunnels for Chennai Metro Phase II, ensuring operational reliability and structural integrity.
