About Project

Afcons Infrastructure Limited

Project Scope:

  • Length: 12.915 km
  • Stations: 13 elevated metro stations (tentative names: Bhadbhada Chauraha, Depot Chauraha, Jawahar Chowk, Roshanpura Chauraha, Kushabhau Thakre Hall, Parade Ground, Prabhat Chauraha, Govindpura, Govindpura Industrial Area, J K Road, Indrapuri, Piplani, and Ratnagiri Tiraha).
  • Timeline: The project is expected to be completed in 36 months.

Detailed Scope of Work:

The project includes designing and constructing critical infrastructure components such as foundations, viaduct piers, platforms, station concourses, technical rooms, entry/exit structures, and FOBs. The contractor is also responsible for:

  • Geotechnical soil investigations at pier locations.
  • Rail-Structure Interaction (RSI) studies.
  • Coordination with design verification engineers (DVE) for design approvals.
  • Aesthetic design ensures a balance between heritage, culture, and modernity.
  • Addressing utilities and foundation designs near existing infrastructure like PWD flyovers.

The project emphasizes advanced design, structural aesthetics, and compliance with statutory approvals from Indian Railways and municipal authorities to minimize urban disruption.

Challenges

Continuous Concrete Casting & Grouting Requirements: Metro viaduct and station construction involves high-pressure concrete pumping, segmental grouting activities, and repetitive heavy-duty operations. Demanding durable, abrasion-resistant hoses.

Exposure to Weather Extremes: Open-site construction in Bhopal involves intense heat, monsoon moisture, and UV exposure. All sealing materials must maintain flexibility and performance under these fluctuations.

Vibration & Movement at Expansion Joints: Elevated structures experience constant vibrations from machinery and traffic movement. Proper sealing solutions are necessary to prevent water seepage and protect reinforcement.

Safety & Reliability Standards for Metro Projects: Metro construction must adhere to strict quality norms, especially for components that come in contact with concrete, water, or structural elements.

Our Solutions

Heavy-Duty Rubber Hoses: Used for concrete pumping, grout injection, and fluid handling on-site, our hoses provided:

  • High abrasion resistance, ideal for continuous concrete flow
  • Superior flexibility, reducing risk of cracks or kinks during operation
  • Pressure-handling capability, essential for segmental construction
  • Long service life, minimizing downtime and replacement frequency

These features ensured smooth and uninterrupted construction cycles during segment casting and station works.

Neoprene Rubber Strips: Deployed primarily at expansion joints and sealing points in stations and viaduct structures, they offered:

  • Excellent weather and ozone resistance, suitable for outdoor elevated work.
  • Superior elasticity, enabling the seal to accommodate movement and vibrations.
  • Moisture and chemical resistance, protecting structural reinforcement.
  • Long-term stability, critical for infrastructure designed for decades of operation

Combined, these materials provided robust sealing and protection in crucial structural zones.

Impact & Results

Thanks to the reliability and performance of our Rubber Hoses and Neoprene Rubber Strips:

  • Afcons achieved efficient and uninterrupted casting of metro segments.
  • Structural joints were effectively sealed, ensuring long-term durability.
  • Material failures and downtime were minimized, improving overall project efficiency.
  • Our products contributed to maintaining the high construction standards required for metro systems.
