Maruti Rubber Group of Industries has successfully manufactured and supplied a high-strength soil reinforcement and filtration system for the critical Agaram Privu Bridge Work in Karimangalam, Dharmapuri, Tamil Nadu. Procured through TPC Infra and Green Energies and executed on-site by Sri Selliamman Construction, this infrastructure asset requires elite-grade geosynthetics to support heavy approach roads and reinforced earth (RE) retaining structures.Maruti supplied an extensive range of high-tensile Tough Straps (ranging from 30 KN up to 100 KN) alongside heavy-duty 150 GSM Non-Woven Geotextiles to ensure the long-term structural stability of the bridge abutments.
Challenge
Bridge approach ramps rely on tiered Reinforced Earth (RE) walls that face varying levels of lateral soil pressure. The lowermost layers bear massive, complex soil loads and dynamic highway traffic stresses, while the upper tiers require flexible, lighter reinforcement. Using a single strap strength would lead to structural inefficiency or over-budgeting. Bridge joints and abutment backfills are highly vulnerable to rainwater runoff and localized water accumulation. Without a proper filtration boundary, water tracking through the structural backfill can carry fine soil particles out through the panel joints, causing internal voids (piping) and ultimate road pavement collapse.
Bridge works executed under state and national highway frameworks in Tamil Nadu operate under strict quality and material durability audits. Friction straps and geotextiles must possess high resistance to chemical aging, soil alkalis, installation damage, and long-term creep to avoid catastrophic joint failure.
Solution
Maruti supplied an optimized, comprehensive range of Tough Straps across multiple tensile strengths (30 KN to 100 KN). This allowed Sri Selliamman Construction's engineering team to strategically deploy ultra-high-capacity 100 KN straps at the high-stress foundational tiers and scale down to lighter straps for upper sections. These polymeric friction straps anchor the fascia panels deep into the backfill, preventing wall bulging or tilting. Our 150 GSM Non-Woven Geotextiles were installed as a high-performance separation and filtration liner behind the RE wall fascia panels. The needle-punched fabric allows water to drain freely to relieve hydrostatic pressure while securely holding back fine sand and soil particles, preserving the internal volume and stability of the bridge approaches.
Maruti’s Tough Straps are manufactured from high-tenacity polyester filaments sheathed in a durable polyethylene protective coating, ensuring excellent resistance to soil chemicals and mechanical abrasion. Paired with our certified 150 GSM fabric, we supplied comprehensive batch test reports covering exact tensile metrics, grab strength, and elongation limits for a smooth quality clearance.
