A 4-lane vehicular underpass (VUP) is planned for Queeny Nagar Junction in Goa as part of a larger project on NH-566. The VUP is designed to be 1.22 km long and will be constructed under the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) mode.

About Project
Challenges
High Structural Load on Underpass Decks: The underpass structure must support continuous vehicular loads from the highway above. The bearing material must provide reliable load distribution and prevent long-term fatigue.
Vibrations from Traffic and Construction Activity: Continuous traffic movement results in dynamic vibrations, requiring materials capable of absorbing impact and reducing stress transmission to the substructure.
Harsh Coastal Climate Exposure: Goa’s coastal conditions include High humidity, Saline atmosphere, Heavy monsoon rains, Intense sunlight. These elements accelerate deterioration of inferior elastomeric materials.
Long-Term Service Life Requirements: Underpasses are long-lifecycle structures. Bearings must maintain elasticity, strength, and dimensional stability over years of continuous loading.
Our Solutions
Strong Load-Bearing Capacity: The EPDM pads ensured uniform load transfer at key contact points, preventing stress concentrations and enhancing structural longevity.
Excellent Vibration & Shock Absorption: The pads absorbed dynamic loads and vibrations from traffic above, reducing stress on the deck slab and improving long-term performance.
Superior Weather, UV & Salt-Air Resistance: EPDM provides exceptional resilience in coastal environments, with strong resistance to: Saline air, UV radiation, Ozone, Temperature changes, Water and moisture. This ensured the pads would remain stable and functional in Goa’s climate.
Supports Structural Movement: The elastomeric flexibility of the pads allowed for minor rotations, thermal expansion, and structural deflections, ensuring uninterrupted performance.
Impact & Results
The EPDM Rubber Pad contributed to the success of the Queeny Nagar VUP by:
- Ensuring durable and stable support for the 4-lane underpass deck.
- Reducing long-term structural stress through effective vibration control.
- Offering exceptional weather resistance, crucial for coastal infrastructure.
- Meeting EPC performance standards and supporting smooth construction progress.
- Enhancing the overall safety and lifespan of the underpass
These advantages helped ensure a robust and reliable underpass structure that will serve high commuter traffic for years to come.
