Maruti Rubber Group of Industries has successfully manufactured and supplied high-discharge Maruti Drain Drainage Composites (Geocomposite Drains) for the major highway expansion project in Hoshiarpur, Punjab. Executed by Phagwara Hoshiarpur Pathways Private Limited (PHPPL), this vital infrastructure development connects core economic hubs. Maruti’s advanced geocomposite drainage panels were deployed at Chainage KM 25+050 (Kahnura Camp) to handle complex subsurface water management, protecting the structural layers of the highway against waterlogging and foundation softening.
Challenge
Road stretches near regional camps like Kahnura are highly vulnerable to rainwater infiltration and fluctuating subsurface water tables. When water gets trapped beneath the pavement or behind retaining structures, it exerts immense hydrostatic pressure and weakens the subgrade layer, leading to premature road cracking, ruts, and catastrophic structural failure. The agricultural and alluvial terrain of Punjab contains fine silt, sandy loams, and clay particles. Traditional granular gravel drainage blankets quickly choke and clog as fine soil particles migrate into the system over time, rendering standard drainage methods useless and causing localized flooding underneath the highway.
Fast-paced highway projects require minimizing heavy transit disruptions near staging locations like the Kahnura Camp. Relying on traditional aggregate drainage systems requires importing hundreds of truckloads of graded gravel, requiring heavy machinery, extensive manual labor, and lengthy installation times
Solution
Maruti supplied its specialized Drainage Composites, which combine a heavy-duty dimpled polymer core with a high-permeability non-woven geotextile filter. This integrated profile creates an continuous, high-volume vacuum-like channel that intercepts and swiftly diverts subgrade water away from the road foundation, keeping the core load-bearing layers permanently dry. The integrated geotextile filter element of the Maruti Drain composite features a meticulously engineered apparent opening size (AOS). It functions as an active mechanical shield that allows water to drain freely into the core while trapping fine silt particles on the outside. This self-cleaning, non-clogging barrier ensures uninterrupted drainage performance for the highway's entire design lifespan.
Maruti Drain Drainage Composites are exceptionally lightweight and supplied in high-coverage, easy-to-handle rolls. A single roll replaces several metric tons of traditional aggregate gravel. This vastly simplified on-site handling for the PHPPL engineering crew, optimized transport logistics, and accelerated installation, keeping the critical KM 25+050 section moving well ahead of schedule.
