The Balm Solar PV Park is a premier utility-scale 74.4-megawatt (MW) AC clean energy facility stretching across 544 acres in south Hillsborough County, Florida. Developed and owned by Tampa Electric Company (TECO) as a cornerstone of their Phase 1 renewable energy expansion, the $110 million installation utilizes 736,226 solar panels to supply sustainable power to roughly 12,000 regional homes.
To securely anchor the sprawling grid of photovoltaic modules to the moving structural rails, heavy-duty aluminum mid and end clamps manufactured by Maruti Techno Rubber were deployed as the primary fasteners across the entire array.
Challenges
Tropical Storm Vulnerability: Situated in a high-risk subtropical corridor in West Central Florida, the facility must withstand intense environmental stresses, including high-velocity hurricane winds, rapid thermal shifts, and heavy seasonal precipitation.
Persistent Mechanical Fatigue: Because the solar modules are integrated into a dynamic single-axis tracker system, the structure undergoes daily rotational cycles. This continuous mechanical tracking places perpetual twisting, vibrations, and structural load strain on the hardware, threatening micro-fracturing or alignment failure if panels shift.
Atmospheric Oxidation Risks: The extensive geographic footprint of the farm leaves thousands of mounting points exposed to extreme UV radiation and persistent humidity, requiring structural components that resist material degradation and galvanic corrosion.
Solution
Industrial-Grade Clamping Integrity: Precision-molded aluminum mid and end clamps by Maruti Techno Rubber were integrated seamlessly across the array. The T-type mid clamps isolate and secure adjacent panel frames together, while reinforced end clamps lock the perimeter margins firmly against severe wind-uplift and shear forces.
Galvanic Resistance & Strength: Extruded from high-tensile aluminum alloy, Maruti’s components offer uniform load distribution. The inert material properties prevent galvanic reactions between differing tracking metals and module frames, maintaining structural integrity without succumbing to rust or environmental fatigue over a multi-decade life span.Streamlined,
Streamlined, High-Torque Field Assembly: The precise physical matching between Maruti's fasteners and the racking profiles allowed mechanical assembly teams to rapidly execute high-torque lock-downs. This efficient pairing minimized field-labor overhead while ensuring the multi-row solar matrix remains strictly within its design boundaries.
